In our last email, we shared the incredible story of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s expedition to the Antarctic.
Shackleton’s accomplishment brought him fame around the world. That fame inspires even today . . . but not because he succeeded in his mission.
In fact, the expedition was a total failure! Shackleton and his crew never made it to their planned destination, not even close.
More remarkable than any expedition could have been was the fact that Shackleton’s extraordinary leadership enabled him to keep his crew alive against unimaginable odds and bring them all back home safely after almost two years.
(You can learn more about his journey and his leadership in our last post.)
What did Shackleton do to keep his crew alive? What were the leadership traits that led to his success? How did he keep everyone and everything on course when disaster was so imminent so often?
Shackleton wasn’t perfect, but he did possess the crucial traits that all heroes --all great leaders--display when the going gets tough.
